KINDRED SPIRITS

As a creative professional, mother of two, hobby chicken farmer, and founder of a feminist art magazine that she works on with her ten-year-old daughter, Christa Renee is what we’d consider to be an honorary member of The Department of New Thoughts. Assuming the role of photographer by day, Christa translates the same wonder and authenticity captured in her images to raising her own children, Wesley (10) and Oscar (5). In their California home, she and husband, Eric, are championing what many would refer to as a modern lifestyle.

As a former art director turned designer, Eric has adopted the responsibility of stay at home dad and teacher, integrating art education into any lesson he can. The decision to homeschool was brought on by the desire to teach their kids what they felt was most important, and has allowed them to experience more together—like starting the magazine, Bright Lite.
In perfect harmony with Native’s own Keep it Lite vision, Bright Lite was created to celebrate the wonders of the world and savor those blissful moments of youth. With content submitted by kids around the world, the magazine provides a space for young girls to use their voice and share it with their peers. The quarterly publication also serves as a continuing study for Wesley, the art director, who is learning about collaboration and communicating ideas, all through this modern education.

Christa photographs her family in their Los Angeles home.

“Family time under the big hot circle in the sky, with
only one thing on our minds — soaking it all in.”

These articles are official documents of the Department of New Thoughts. The Native Tongue is part of the continuing study of lite on Earth. The galaxy speaks and we jot it all down for all the Explorers, all the Folk and all the Feet of the world to consume. Free for all minds—wander into the wonderful.
